Octavius Scata

Octavius "Artie" Scata of Portland CT passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on January 1st. 

Art was born in Middletown on March 5th, 1940 to the late Joseph and Lena Scata of Middletown. Art was predeceased by his beloved wife, Deborah Self Scata of 35 years and lived many joyous years together in Meriden, CT before moving to Portland.

He leaves behind his brother Joe Scata of Rocky Hill, CT and his sister Phyllis Sundell of Portland, CT. He is predeceased by his sister Connie and his brother in law Dick Dunn, his brother in law Brian Sundell and sister in law Linda Scata.

Artie's greatest joy are his daughters, Linda Scata Brown and her husband (Garth) of Jamaica, WI; Dyana McCracken of Columbia, SC; Donna Scata and her husband (Paul) LeGrand of Lyndonville, VT; and Michelle Pistorino and her husband (Tony) of Middletown, CT. Art leaves behind his grandchildren Rebekah Dagny of Phoenix, AZ; Brianna Treadwell of Dallas, TX; Kyle (Sara) McCracken of Virginia Beach, VA; Jacob McCracken of Columbia, SC; Isaac Lohnes of Manchester, CT; Luke (Shawna) Treadwell of Westford, VT; and Sophia Pistorino and Gianna Pistorino of Middletown, CT. Art also was blessed by great grandchildren Harrison & Ella Treadwell of VT, and AJ and Blaze McCracken of VA.

As you can see Artie has a large family and he shared many of life’s milestones with his surviving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews; Patty (Bill) Edgerly of Middlefield, Beth Dunn of Middlefield, Paula (Peter) Barnett of Higganum; Richard Dunn of Florida; Michael (Maddie) Sundell of Portland; Jonathan (Sara) Sundell of Portland; Maria (Eric) Zematis of Pennsylvania; Laurie (Daryl) Fetzko of Rocky Hill; Debbie Jo (Tony) Hart of Mississippi.

His surviving family also includes his wife's sister Hope and (Jerry) Damon of East Hampton, Tony and Nichole Boucino and great nephew and niece Ty and Brenna all of Madison

Artie was an avid Yankee and Nascar fan and enjoyed a good game of cribbage, bingo and set back with his fellow neighbors at The Atrium the last few years.

The funeral will be held on Friday, January 9that 11:30 a.m. from the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Sebastian Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 8thfrom 4 to 6 p.m.
