Luigi (Gino) Aresco, 92, resident of Middletown, CT for 72 yrs, beloved husband of the predeceased Sebastiana (Milardo) Aresco, passed away on July 4th, surrounded by family at Middlesex Hospital after a long struggle with multiple health issues.
Luigi was born November 11th, 1931 in Mellilli, Sicily, Italy to the late Salvatrice (Lastrina) and Carmelo Aresco. He is survived by his loving family of three sons and two daughters-in-law, Carmelo and Susan, Louis and Suzanne, and John Aresco. He has four grandchildren: Christopher, Louis, Daniel, and Christina, their spouses/significant others: Nikki, Samantha, Holly, and Mike; three great grandchildren: Avery, Sofia and Giovanna, as well as 22 nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his youngest brother Antonio and sister-in-laws Rose Aresco and Lucia Milardo and predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Giovanni, Giuseppe, Lucia (Mendola), Concetttina (Gennaro), Rosina (Ponzio), and Bianca (Genovese).
After coming to the United States in 1952 he was married in 1958 to his wife of 64 years in St. Sebastian’s Church of which he was a parishioner. He began work in the masonry trade as a laborer and apprentice, and later in 1965 started his own Masonry Business that he owned until retiring after 35 years. Luigi was the epitome of the American dream; he came to the U.S. with little more than his clothes, became a citizen, and with hard work and perseverance was able to provide for his family and help others new to the country by providing many of Middletown’s new residents with jobs. He was a craftsman at his trade, whose work can be seen in many of Connecticut’s towns and in Vermont from stone and brick fireplaces, stone walls, to industrial buildings and shopping malls.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends who got to know his smile, sense of humor and his kindness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 10th at 11 a.m. in St. Sebastian Church. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Friends may call at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
