Irene (Parducci) Spinnler, 93, of Middletown, widow of Robert Spinnler, passed peacefully from this earth surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 13th, at Middlesex Hospital.
Born on February 6th, 1931, in Bronx, NY, Irene was the daughter of the late Angelo and Amelia Parducci. After graduation from High School, she was employed as a secretary for 6 years at the SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler where she met her husband, a graduate of the College and later employed as an instructor before entering the U.S. Navy. During that time, they lived in Newport, RI and upon leaving the Navy moved to Middletown where her husband was employed as an engineer at United Technologies. They had four children: Lisa, Rob, Karen, and June. As the children grew up Irene worked at Wesleyan University in the Sociology Department where she spent thirty-one incredibly happy and rewarding years.
Irene accompanied her adventurous husband on exciting trips to Europe, China, South America, and many U.S. states. Her husband, being a sailor, belonged to the Sachem Head Yacht Club in Guilford, CT and during the summertime spent most weekends there when not in their summer home on Block Island, R.I. Being a voracious reader, Irene continued to read the New York Times and Wall Street Journal well into her 90s. Along with her positive spirit, her thoughtfulness and newspaper clippings in the mail will be missed! A competitive gamer, she was winning dominos up until the week of her passing and true to herself, was not one to pass up a good game of bridge, 9-5 or dominos with Betty and her girlfriends. We have many fond memories of Irene singing with Pat at family gatherings, entertaining us with songs from the 50’s, Christmas carols and opera.
Irene was a member of the St. Pius X Church and their St. Veronica’s Mothers’ Circle. Irene is survived by her loving children, their spouses, and grandchildren: Michael and Devon Townsend, Scott, Kate and Kelly Gardner, twins Chris and Jenny Goersch; great grandchildren, as well as her brother Eddie Parducci.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 14th at 12 noon in St. Pius X Church, Middletown. Burial will be in the family plot in St. Sebastian’s Cemetery, Middlefield. The Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown, is in charge of arrangements.
