Gordon Milton

Gordon D. Milton, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born on March 13, 1942 in Glastonbury, CT, Gordon lived his entire life in Connecticut. He was a true local legend—well-known and deeply respected for both his skilled hands and kind heart. For over 60 years, he owned and operated several auto body shops, most notably Mid State Auto Body in Middletown , where he built a reputation for excellence in car restoration. His generosity was evident in how he often repaired cars for people on the promise of payment at a later date, sealed only with a handshake.

A true craftsman, Gordon had a remarkable eye for detail and an uncanny ability to bring classic cars back to life. A jack of all trades, Gordon held a pilot’s license and could pretty much fix anything he got his hands on.

Gordon enjoyed taking day trips with his long-time companion of 20 years Dianne, whom he affectionately called his “sweetie”. They loved attending local bluegrass festivals, their favorite music, playing setback with friends, playing guitar together and watching Jeopardy where he often answered the majority of the questions . His days were filled with the simple pleasures of conversation, music and lending a hand—traits that made him a cherished friend to many.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, deep friendships and a life well lived. Whether under the hood of a classic car, in the skies above New England, around a table playing setback, cooking something delicious, cheering on the Yankees or just snuggling on the couch watching TV with his sweetie, Gordon made the most of every single day.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Dianne DiGiandomenico of Portland, his loving sisters Marilyn Strickland and Gladys Krepcio, brother-in-law Jack Krepcio, brother-in-law Sherwood Strickland as well his “bonus daughter” Nicki Crawford and his “niece” Suzanne Giordano both of whom he loved and who helped care for him in his final years. Also left to mourn is Dianne’s family who loved spending time with Gordon and hearing his stories.

He is predeceased by 2 sisters, Claudia Strickland and Glynnis Stannard as well as a brother William Milton and brother-in-law, Doug Strickland along with his loving cat Lucy.

The family would like to thank his home health aides Destiny and Joseph for taking such wonderful care of Gordon during his final months.

At Gordon’s request, there will be no service or funeral. Donations may be made in his honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
