Frank P. Carta II of Cromwell, son of the late Frank and Anna Carta (Pirruccio), passed away on January 6th after a brief illness. He is survived by a son, Jesse Carta of Cromwell, a brother, Louis Carta and his wife Marilyn Carta of Cromwell, a niece, Stefanie Carta of Cromwell, an aunt, Santina Branciforte of Middletown, an uncle, Richard Smith of Cromwell and many cousins. Frank was born and raised in Middletown, Connecticut. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1965, and went on to attend the Cambridge School of Broadcasting in Boston. Shortly thereafter, he volunteered to join the United States Army having served for three years including one tour in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged, Frank obtained his bachelor’s degree from Western Connecticut State University and his master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He taught for over 30 years in the Hartford School System until his retirement. Frank was a big fan of the University of Connecticut football and basketball programs. He was an avid reader and authored a book about his life and experience in Vietnam. He loved music and had a large record collection. He played numerous instruments and was a member of several bands. Frank loved gardening, taking photographs and spending time at the shore.
Friends may call at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High St., Middletown, on January 20th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. A service in his honor will begin at 11 a.m. followed by a burial with full military honors at the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
