Evelyn Cahill of Middletown, CT passed away peacefully on May 3rd, surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born and raised in Middletown, CT on July 9,th 1942, daughter of the late Cornelius and Evelyn (Farrell) Cahill. Evelyn received an Associate Degree in business from Wright Jr. College in Chicago.Because Evelyn was compassionate and empathetic she was a caregiver for many, including her children, extended family, neighbors, and others who needed assistance. For ten years Evelyn was a paraprofessional at Portland High School where she continued to utilize her skills in meeting the needs of others.Evelyn possessed artistic talents in restoring antique furniture and repurposing trunks for toy storage or as cedar chests. Evelyn had rare free time but when she did, she enjoyed walking, reading, doing puzzles, listening to music, watching Jeopardy and Patriot games. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family at Hawks Nest Beach in Old Lyme, CT. Each July Evelyn’s mother arranged a family outing at Goodspeed Opera House for a musical in celebration of Evelyn’s birthday. She continued the tradition of attending shows at Goodspeed for decades. Evelyn treasured her travels to many places with her sister Rita. Evelyn is survived by her sons: Christopher Reinsch (Jennifer), Timothy Reinsch ,and Ryan Reinsch (Stephanie Lacroix); daughters Elizabeth McGovern, Therese Johnson, and Rita Riordan (Mike); many beloved grandchildren; brothers Vincent Cahill,Thomas Cahill (Marilyn); sisters Rita Toscano, Margaret Cahill (Edward Holub); sister-in-law Linda Cahill and brother-in-law James Sabo. Evelyn was predeceased by her sister Mary Ellen Sabo and brothers Michael Cahill and Kieran Cahill. Evelyn is also survived by a large, extended family of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and friends.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday May 18th, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St, Middletown, CT. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the Church prior to the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Burial will be immediately following the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portland.
